Downtown Riverside, circa 1907 The view is looking north (not east) on Main Street with 8th Street in the foreground. The stately Castleman Building is on the far right, with the Evans Building across 8th Street from it. The Mission Inn is barely visible down the street. Postcards such as this served to advertise the wealth and prosperity of towns to friends and loved-ones "back home." (Collection of Steve Lech) |
Riverside High School, circa 1907
This view is of the original Riverside High School building, located on the block bounded by 9th, 10th, Lemon, and Lime Streets. It was constructed in 1902-1903, and served as the Riverside Girls' High School from 1911 to 1924, and continued serving students well into the 1930s, even after the construction of Poly High School. Today it is the site of a business building. (Collection of Steve Lech) |
